OpenCode pricing (2026): free, Go, Go Plus or Zen pay-as-you-go?

updated · prices checked

quick answer: OpenCode itself is free and open source (MIT). you pay for the model, one of four ways: OpenCode's free models (200 requests a day), your own API key or an existing GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus or Pro login, Go at $10/mo or Go Plus at $40/mo for a curated lineup with set limits, or pay as you go on Zen from a $20 balance at the model provider's price.

OpenCode is #3 of 13 on our coding agents board (8.5/10): a Claude Code-style agent for the terminal, desktop and IDE that isn't tied to one model. which makes the pricing question really "how do you want to pay for tokens?". here's each route.

the ways to pay

route price what you get
OpenCode app free the agent, MIT licensed, for terminal, desktop and IDE
free models $0 Big Pickle plus whatever's on promotion, 200 requests a day
your own key your provider's rates any of 75+ providers, local models included
existing login what you already pay log in with GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus or Pro
Go $10/mo a curated set of coding models with set limits, usable from any agent
Go Plus $40/mo the same lineup with higher limits
Zen pay as you go add a $20 balance (+$1.23 card fee); per request at the provider's price

is OpenCode free?

yes, the agent is. no seat fee, no subscription, no catch on the software. what isn't free is the model behind it, unless you use OpenCode's free models.

is it free unlimited? no. the free models come with a quota of 200 requests a day, and most of them are free "for a limited time" while their makers collect feedback. read the small print on data, too: during the free period some of them (Big Pickle among them) may use what you send to improve the model. fine for a side project, not for a client's codebase.

Go and Go Plus: the subscription

Go is $10 a month and Go Plus is $40 a month. you get a curated lineup of coding models (Kimi, GLM, Qwen, MiniMax and DeepSeek models, plus Claude Haiku 5.5 and GPT-6 Luna, among others) with limits on a rolling basis: up to 20% of your monthly allowance in any 5 hours, 50% in a week and 100% in the month. how many requests that buys depends on the model. you can top up credit if you run out, and cancel any time.

two things worth knowing:

Zen: pay as you go

Zen is OpenCode's pay-as-you-go model gateway (its docs now call it the Console). add a $20 balance (plus a $1.23 processing fee), auto top-up adds $20 when you hit $5, and you can set monthly spend limits. OpenCode says it charges what the model provider charges with no markup, beyond the card fee. a few of its per-million-token prices that match the vendors' own pages:

Zen's providers follow a zero-retention policy and don't train on your data, with a few listed exceptions (mostly the free models).

#3 OpenCode devs who want a Claude Code-style agent without being tied to one model free and open source (MIT); free models included, or bring your own key, or log in with GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus/Pro optional OpenCode Go $10/mo or Go Plus $40/mo 8.5/10
#1 Claude Code delegating multi-file features from terminal or IDE no free access: Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan (Pro and up) Pro $20/mo 9.0/10
#5 Cline BYO-key developers who want control free open-source extension (VS Code + CLI) no subscription 8.0/10
#4 GitHub Copilot teams already on GitHub; budget-conscious devs limited chat and agent usage Pro $10/mo 8.0/10
#2 Cursor developers who want ai inside a full editor limited ai usage Plus $8/mo, Grok models only 8.5/10

OpenCode's floor is a genuinely usable $0. Claude Code, the one above it, starts at $20, and Cursor's free plan is a taster. the trade-off: it isn't tuned to one model the way Claude Code is, and with your own key the bill is only as cheap as the model you pick. head-to-head: OpenCode vs Claude Code. the whole $0 to $20 ladder: cheapest ai coding agent. every plan on one page: the ai coding agent price sheet.
