Lovable vs Bolt: which AI app builder should you actually use?

Updated · prices checked on vendor pages

Quick verdict: Not a coder and want something that looks finished? Lovable. Happy poking at code and want the bigger free allowance? Bolt.new. That's it really. Rest of the page is the why.

Both turn a prompt into a working web app. Both host it for you. Both will happily eat your credits if you prompt like a lunatic. The difference is who they're built for.

Where Lovable wins

It looks good out of the box. Lovable is the smoothest prompt-to-proper-app path for people who don't code. Less fiddling, more "oh, that's actually decent".

Credits cover everything. One balance pays for building, running your app on Lovable Cloud and any AI features inside your app. Lovable's own examples: "make the button gray" costs about 0.5 credits, adding sign-up and login about 1.2. Small changes are cheap. Big vague prompts aren't.

No per-seat tax. Every plan supports unlimited workspace members. Bring the whole team, the price doesn't move. You just burn credits faster.

Student discount. Lovable has one if you've got a uni email. Bolt doesn't advertise one that we could find.

Where Bolt wins

Bigger free tier. 300K tokens a day is chunky. If you're skint and tinkering, Bolt lets you do more before paying.

You can see the code. Bolt is fast in-browser full-stack scaffolding with the code right there. If you know a bit of JavaScript, you can fix things yourself instead of begging the AI for the fifth time.

Clear price. Pro is $25/mo billed monthly, printed on the page. No guessing.

The honest bit

If you're a founder with an idea and no dev, Lovable is the safer bet. If you're a dev-ish person who wants speed, Bolt will feel quicker and freer. Both have free tiers, so try the same prompt in each. Ten minutes will tell you more than any comparison page. Including this one.
